John Dyke is a landscape architect with over 25 years professional experience covering a broad range of environmental projects. John specialises in historic landscape conservation and landscape assessment and is highly experienced in the preparation of Conservation Management Plans. He has worked in both the public and private sectors, as an interpretive planner, university lecturer and specialist consultant.

John’s work spans a range of areas including historic sites, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens and scheduled ancient monuments in Australia, Europe and the UK.

Prior to joining Context, John has been involved with a number of successful Heritage Lottery funded projects in the UK including Local Authority Public Parks and Gardens and Landscape Partnership Schemes. His experience in these projects covered the full planning and design process, from preparing Conservation Management Plans and costed masterplans through to implementing successful schemes. John has also been extensively involved in the development and implementation of numerous interpretation strategies and site management plans for old town halls, industrial archaeological sites and historic parks across the United Kingdom. Other notable projects that John has been involved in whilst living in the United Kingdom are the Cuerden Valley Park restoration project and the Astley Park restoration masterplan and conservation plan.

In Australia John has contributed to the initial planning work on the Australian Gardens at Cranbourne, and was involved in the landscape management plans for Maldon, Ballarat, Churchill Island, Beechworth Cemetery, Daylesford and several provincial botanic gardens in Victoria.

John’s diverse professional background has equipped him with the skills to run community consultation exercises, analyse and understand landscape significance and devise conservation policies and strategies. He also has a thorough understanding of policy and legislation and is a specialist in defining landscape character, as demonstrated by his assessments of Areas of Natural Beauty, River Catchments and Rural Project areas.
