Louise Honman

Director

Louise Honman is a registered architect with over twenty years experience specialising in heritage and conservation projects. She has extensive experience in heritage assessment, preparation of conservation management plans, principles of building conservation, architectural design and heritage advisory roles within local government.

Prior to joining the Context team Louise gained her heritage experience in the public realm with the Historic Buildings Branch of the Public Works Department, at Deakin University, and in private practice with Meredith Gould Architect and Nigel Lewis and Associates. Local government experience has included heritage adviser roles with councils at Queenscliff, Moyne and Glenelg in regional Victoria.

She has a strong architectural design experience both in her own practice and with Third Ecology, and has won an award for environmentally sustainable design. Her architectural practice has focused on residential alterations and additions, building conservation, and heritage consulting. Environmental sustainability in buildings has increasingly become a major interest, and Louise views it as symbiotic with heritage.

Louise has had extensive experience in preparing Conservation Management Plans for individual buildings and complex sites. Examples include Point Cooke Homestead (2002), Queenscliff Pier and Shelter Shed, (2003) (for Parks Victoria); Barwon Grange (2001), (for the National Trust); Christ Church, Geelong, 1996 (for the Anglican Diocese) and Mount Rothwell Homestead, Little River, 2006 (private client).

Since joining Context in early 2008 Louise has managed numerous heritage studies including the Hawthorn Heritage Precincts Study 2008 (for the City of Boroondara) and a large scale heritage study for the City of Greater Bendigo 2008. She has been instrumental in the delivery of heritage assessments to clients such as the Rural City of Benalla (2008) and has contributed to management and strategic plans for private clients, the business community and local governments.

Passionate about the potential for incorporating the tenets of sustainability into all of her heritage work, Louise continues to make an ongoing contribution to the National Trust, assisting with heritage properties in Geelong.
