Community Workshops

Yarriambiack’s township of Minyip was the home of the iconic Flying Doctors series in the 1980s. Meeting with members of the local historical societies at community heritage workshops in Hopetoun, Warracknabeal and Murtoa, David Helms and Aron Paul were excited to hear about the places that really matter to locals. So now some of the sets and backdrops, including the Club Hotel and ‘Emma’s Garage’ are among those being investigated for heritage significance.

‘From lakes and nature reserves to soldier settlements and the region’s iconic grain silos. Yarriambiack’s location in the dry Mallee-Wimmera country meant that water, irrigation and floods were major historic themes in the development of the area’ said Aron Paul, project historian.
