Victoria's Framework of Historical Themes released
Under spreading branches in the Flagstaff Gardens, the chairs of the Aboriginal Heritage Council Eleanor Bourke and the Heritage Council of Victoria Daryl Jackson launched Victoria’s Framework of Historical Themes – a publication designed to help us all recognise and care for what is distinctive about Victoria.
The nine main themes, each with subthemes, are designed to help in assessing the significance of places and objects, in interpretation and tourism planning and in heritage area studies. Within each theme, questions invite the user to think broadly about the theme. Prompts and examples of places and objects help illustrate the breadth of the sub-themes. A series of seven case studies illustrate how the thematic framework can be applied. Case Study 2, for example, illustrates how themes were used in a local heritage area study (Hobsons Bay City Council), Case Study 6 demonstrates the analysis of the Lake Boga social and cultural heritage landscape where both Aboriginal people and the broader community have strong connections.
