Evaluation of Merri Creek Industrial Stormwater Project
Client: Hume City Council
Working closely with local businesses, Hume City Council’s stormwater project set out to decrease pollutants entering Merri Creek in storm water. Context’s role was to assess how successful, or otherwise, the project was in changing behaviours and business practices which are known to contribute to storm-water pollution.
A key finding was that, before the project began, many businesses had little or no understanding of how drainage systems work and did not appreciate that stormwater runs off into waterways untreated. They were positive about the knowledge they had gained and all surveyed had taken steps to change their stormwater management.
Context’s report highlighted aspects of the project which had produced changes likely to continue and areas where further action might be needed by council to change behaviours.
