Huts Conservation Strategy: Kosciuszko National Park

Kosi910_project

Client: NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

The Huts Conservation Strategy was prepared by Godden Mackay Logan and Context. The project involved a thorough investigation of the importance of the huts as a collection, focusing on new assessments of social significance and cultural landscape value.

The Strategy offers a comprehensive understanding of the huts as a collection, presenting a framework of policies to help ensure the protection of tangible and intangible values. It recommends the rebuilding of a number of the huts that were destroyed in the fires of 2003 as well as policies designed to build partnerships with associated communities for the ongoing conservation of the huts. It represents a new direction for the Parks Service, and a new appreciation of the ways in which associations and social significance relate to fabric.
