Client: Department of Treasury and Finance

Context completed a conservation management plan (CMP) for Warburton Mechanics' Institute, an important local building which has played a major role in the social and cultural life of Warburton (Victoria) for over a century.

The development of the plan included historic research and gaining an understanding of the Institute and its significance, leading to a strategy for conserving it. Developing the conservation strategy included exploring factors affecting the future of the Institute, a heritage policy, community consultation and schedule of work needed. The resulting CMP set out a vision for the Institute and listed practical steps needed to achieve that vision. The CMP provides a sound framework for the future conservation and re-use of the Warburton Mechanics' Institute.
